The Government's Energy Performance in Buildings Directive (EPBD) requires that all air conditioning systems with an effective rated output of more than 12Kw must be inspected by an Energy Assessor with inspections being no more than 5 years apart.
Having your air conditioning system inspected by an Energy Assessor is designed to improve efficiency, reduce electricity consumption, operating costs and carbon emissions for your system. It is also a legal requirement to which all owners of air conditioning systems must adhere. When do I need an inspection?
- The first inspection of all existing air conditioning systems with an effective rated output greater than 250Kw cooling capacity must be inspected immediately
- The first inspection of all existing air conditioning systems with an effective rated output greater than 12Kw must have been inspected by 4th January 2011
- New air conditioning systems with an output of over 12Kw that were installed on or after 1 January 2008 must be inspected within five years
Problems & Penalties for non compliance
- £300 to £5,000 fine depending on the building size / number of infringments
- Enforcement by Trading Standards officers with powers to repeat fines on each recorded infringment
- Potential reduced property values where inspection reports indicate significant improvement recommendations
What is involved?
Upon inspection our Air Conditioning Energy Assessor will provide you with a TM44 report that is designed to:
- Assess the efficiency of systems, review the sizing, identify existing faults and/or end-user operator error and advise accordingly.
- Reduce electricity consumption and running costs
- Reduce carbon emissions
- Recommend improvements to the operation of your existing systems
- Provide good house-keeping tiprs (such as moving obstructions from fan coil units)
- Highlight opportunities to replace older, less energy efficient systems (or oversized systems) with modern “A” Label energy efficient models.
There are financial penalties for non compliance as well as the ongoing excessive running costs of operating non energy efficient systems. DON'T BE CAUGHT OUT! CALL US TODAY ON FREEPHONE 0800 083 9033.
